Other options:
When it comes to accommodation, students have a range of options to choose from, and many decide to arrange their own living space.
Here are some of the most popular choices for both international and domestic students:
Hostel Accommodation
Hostels are a great option for international students, especially during the first few months after arrival. They typically offer small, furnished rooms with access to shared amenities like bathrooms, laundry facilities, lounges, and recreational spaces. Some hostels even provide computer access. If you’re considering this option, it’s a good idea to visit two or three hostels before making a decision. Keep in mind that many hostels are privately run and fall under the Rooming House Act. If you sign a lease, you’ll be covered by the Residential Tenancies Act.
Apartment or Flat Rental
Renting an apartment or flat is another popular option, but prices and conditions can vary significantly depending on the location. For long-term rentals, it’s important to be familiar with the area you’re moving into. When looking for a place, make sure you’re available to sign rental agreements and arrange payments for things like bond and moving costs. It’s recommended that international students secure short-term accommodation upon arrival so they can take their time exploring different neighbourhoods before committing to a flat or apartment. Once settled in, you can start looking for areas that feel like the best fit for your lifestyle.
